Enterprise customers generate feedback across dozens of touchpoints: sales calls, support tickets, Slack channels, usage data, NPS surveys, and more. The challenge is creating a system that captures this feedback, routes it to the right teams, and closes the loop back to customers—all without creating bureaucratic overhead.
Different audiences need different views of the same feedback. Design dashboards and reports for each.

How to roll this out and get buy-in from stakeholders.
Don't pitch "a new feedback system." Instead, find the pain: "We lost a $500k deal because we didn't know 3 other customers wanted the same feature." Lead with the problem.
Pick your most strategic customer. Set up the full loop just for them: capture → triage → build → communicate. Prove it works before scaling.
If it takes more than 30 seconds to log feedback, people won't do it. Use Slack emoji reactions, auto-capture from calls, or a simple /feedback command. Remove all friction.
15-minute weekly meeting where PM shares top feedback themes. Invite Sales/CS. Make it a habit. This creates demand for the system.
When you ship something a customer asked for, make a big deal of it. Post in their Slack, have the AE send a personal note. This is the incentive for everyone to participate.
Track: time from feedback to ship, NPS changes, expansion revenue from "you asked, we built." Share wins monthly. Nothing ensures adoption like proving ROI.

Let behavior tell you what words can't. Look for patterns in what customers actually do.

Don't survey everyone together. You'll mix yesterday's sign-ups with lifelong customers, daily users with billing-only visitors. The result is noise, not signal.
Survey all users → Get averaged-out, contradictory feedback → Build features that half-satisfy everyone and fully satisfy no one.

As users get more experience, their feedback matures. Early feedback explains confusion. Later feedback explains limitations.

Customers are constantly sharing feedback—just not in survey form. Capture it where they naturally express it.
Enterprise customers often have a #mistral-support or similar channel. Every message is unfiltered feedback.
Granola transcripts, meeting notes, QBR decks. Customers speak freely in conversations.
When something fails, capture what they were trying to do. The error state IS the feedback moment.
Every ticket is a complaint or request. Tag and aggregate to see patterns.
When money's on the table, customers are honest about what they need to stay/grow.
Usage drops, feature abandonment, login gaps. They're telling you without words.
The plural of anecdote is not data—it's a hypothesis. When you see clustering, don't build. Verify first.
"When customers point to the moon, the naive product manager examines their finger."
The "faster horses" tale is often used to justify not listening to customers, but that misses the point. If a customer says they want a faster horse, they're telling you speed is a key requirement for transport. Your job is to figure out how to deliver that—which might be a car, not a faster horse.

When you see 3-5 similar requests, you have a hypothesis worth testing—not a feature to build. Write it down: "We believe [segment] struggles with [problem]."
If 5 new users complained, talk to 20 new users. If 5 power users asked, talk to 20 power users. Don't mix segments or you'll get noise.
In verification calls, don't ask "Do you want X?" Ask "What's hard about [area]?" If the pain comes up unprompted, it's real. If you have to suggest it, it's weak.
Customer requests are a cocktail of their design skills, product knowledge, and understanding of their pain. They know nothing of your roadmap, technical constraints, or vision. Abstract a level or two above what's requested into something that makes sense to you and benefits all customers.
Validated pain still needs sizing. What % of users experience it? How often? What's the cost of not solving it? This informs prioritization.
Now—and only now—design the solution. It may be exactly what they asked for, or something completely different. "Simpler form" became "recurring events." "Faster horse" became "automobile." The job-to-be-done is your guide.
Occasionally a feature request will be spot on. It rhymes with everything else and perfectly fits the world the way you see it. On these occasions, you can skip steps—verification, abstraction, clustering—and trust your intuition.

But on every other occasion: talk to your customers. It makes you smarter.
